Year 1: Miss Willey & Mrs Bridgman

Welcome to Year 1!

We are currently studying a topic called 'Brilliant Bodies' in which we are learning about the five senses. We started this by having a senses workshop where we had to use our senses to identify a range of different things.

We have managed to grow some vegetables in our outside area. Thanks to all the sunshine, we have some healthy carrots, lettuces, broadbeans and potatoes. Vegetables grown by Year 1

Frank visits Year 1

We had a visit from Frank Letch, ambassador for the charity ‘Reach’. This organisation supports children and young people with upper limb differences. Frank led an inspirational assembly for the whole school about accepting differences and supporting people who have individual differences that make life more challenging for them. Frank was able to speak from experience about this because he has a shortened left arm and no right arm. In a demonstration for Year 1 and Reception children, Frank also showed the children how he uses his feet to carry out everyday tasks such as peeling potatoes, brushing his hair and playing tennis. The children were in awe of his skill and perseverance. Year 1 were so inspired that they couldn’t resist taking their shoes and socks off and trying to use their toes to write their names! If you would like to read more about the work of ‘Reach’, the link is: http://reach.org.uk/
