Maple, Pine & Willow Weekly Update - Friday 16th November
Literacy: This week, the children have finished writing the story of ‘Pinocchio’. All of the children have focussed on using the power of three adjectives, to paint a picture in the reader’s mind. They have also acted out, planned and written their own story using the toy they brought into school.
Maths – The children have concluded their learning on addition and subtraction this week. Year 1 have practised solving mixed addition and subtraction questions and Year 2 have been learning how to solve number bonds to 100. We have also started our new learning on shape.
Year 1s – Please can your child go on a shape hunt around the house and see what shapes they can find?
Year 2s – Please can your child practise subtracting a 1-digit number from a tens number by counting backwards? For example, 60 – 4 = 56.
Reading and spellings - Please continue reading with your child at least five times a week. Children who do this will get a sticker in their reading log. We have sent home new spellings for the children to learn ready for their spelling quiz next week.
Helpers needed: Next week, the children will be starting to make finger puppets. We are intending to get them to sew these and so it would be useful if we could have some parent helpers to assist with this. Each class will be doing this on a different day of the week in the afternoon. If you are interested in helping, please let your child’s class teacher know. If you are prepared to work with more than one class, this would also be useful to know.
Nativity parts – This week, we have allocated the Nativity parts to the Year 1 children. Year 2 will be doing the singing. Earlier in the week, your Year 1 child should have come home with a letter to say what role they will be playing. If you haven’t already done so, please can you return the form to say whether you will be providing your child with an outfit or whether you would like the school to provide them with an outfit? Children were asked if they’d like a speaking part for the Nativity. If they requested a speaking part, we have allocated them a speaking role and a script has been sent home for your child to practise their lines. We would appreciate if you can support your child in learning their lines. Information regarding tickets will go home next week.
