This is the place... A tribute from Class 3 to Stratton Primary School in verse.

After the terrible events in Manchester and London in the past weeks, Year 3 watched the poet Tony Walsh perform his poem 'This is the place...' which highlights the great things for which Manchester should be remembered. You can watch the video at the link below.

Class 3 were inspired to write their own poems, with the same title, about Stratton Primary School, and what it is about our school that makes it so special. Here are a few examples of their work.

Mathletics and Abacus:

Remember, you can always go on Mathletics to try and beat the class record or the Abacus games are there for you play to help you improve your maths skills.

Times Tables in Year 3:

As well as our daily mental maths sessions in class, we have started a structured testing of their times tables. There are 26 questions and the children will be given 2 minutes to answer them.

If a child gets at least 23 correct then they will receive a certificate and move onto the next challenge. The first test is the 10 x table with both division and multiplication facts. The next is the 2x table, and following that there is a challenge of the 10 and 2 x table together. This continues until the children will have learnt all the tables for Year 3 which are: 10, 2, 5, 3, 4 and 8. Answering questions like this should mean the children won't forget what they've already learnt.

If a child doesn't get 23 questions correct then they will receive a sticker if they get a higher score than the previous week. When your child earns a certificate, it will say what they need to learn next. For copies of the quiz, please see below. More will be added in time. Please feel free to print them and use them at home.
