Information for parents re Coronavirus(COVID-19)

17th March 2020

On Monday 16th March, the Government updated their advice in response to Coronavirus(COVID-19) https://www.gov.uk/government/topical-events/coronavirus-covid-19-uk-government-response and as you can imagine we are receiving requests for advice about keeping pupils at home.

Self-isolating:

According to the government's latest information - if anyone in the household is showing signs of a continuous cough and/or fever, please ensure that you all self-isolate for 14 days. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection

Social Distancing:

In addition to this, if you have a vulnerable pupil with an underlying health condition, you may make the decision to undertake more stringent social distancing. Please ensure that you keep our office staff up to date with any developments at home.

I am so proud of the way the whole school staff have responded to this emergency. This is a very challenging time for us all and we know how important it is to keep up some normality for us all, especially for the children. Please bear with us as we do our best!

FAQs

We have collated questions we are being asked and will update this list regularly:

Closure:

We are open for business but will not be running 100% as usual as we respond to staff and pupil absence on a daily basis. We will update via text, website and Facebook page if this situation changes

Medical criteria

We recommend that pupils meeting criteria as “vulnerable people” (eg. Asthmatics) follow new, and on-going, Government advice on social distancing (see links above) and stay away from school

Work for children who are off school:

Before Easter - we have produced a paper pack for every child which will take you up to the Easter break. We will distribute these as soon as we can so that you have it ready (probably Wednesday 18th March).

After Easter - teachers are preparing resources matched to topic work which we will be able to send to you later – this will be more online-based so please let us know if this will cause difficulties for your family and we will try to work around this for you

Lunches:

The school kitchen is under extreme pressure due to staff illness. We will only be able to provide a school packed lunch for pupils – most likely ham, cheese and tuna rolls, cake, fruit, vegetables and salad. Pupils will eat lunch in classroom groups

Breakfast Club:

This will run at present – the menu will be limited and likely to include cereals, toast, yogurt and fruit juices

Assemblies and playtimes:

We are suspending assemblies and whole-school gatherings

Playtimes are now organised into smaller groupings

Clubs, swimming, extra-curricular activities and sporting events:

We are suspending all our own after school clubs and all extra-curricular activities from today

Sports events organised externally have all been cancelled

We have cancelled the remaining swimming lesson for Year 1 pupils at Splash due to staffing issues

Visitors to the school:

We are significantly limiting visitors coming into the school – please try to be well organised each day so that you do not need to visit the school during the day e.g. to drop things off

Water bottles:

Please send a clean water bottle every day

Class photos on Friday:

We have postponed these for now

Bude After-School and Holiday Club:

They tell us they will continue at present with sensible precautions in place

Residentials:

We are working on this and will update soon. Government advice is for us to undertake a risk assessment but I am certain that advice will change…

Events for Parents:

Events such as KS2 project afternoon, planned assembly for musicians’ parents are now cancelled

Whilst we are still open the KS2 projects can still be shared (on 26th March) and celebrated in classes and photos put on the website

If your child is absent on 26th March, we would love to see a photograph of their project – please email to the class teacher (see class web page for email address)

Help for families

If your family needs help at this difficult time, please let us know and we will see what we can arrange to help.
