Year 1 Weekly Update – Friday 22nd July
We have had a great week finishing off our topic work in science and history.
We are looking forward to the last two days of term on Monday and Tuesday next week and have some fun activities planned.
Summer Holiday Homework
We hope that you enjoy the summer break. Please try to continue to read to your child and to listen to them read. The summer reading challenge at Bude library is a fantastic way to help motivate your child to keep reading throughout the holiday. Please see details below.
Library books and reading books
We have collected in all school library books and reading books. If you still have any at home, please return them to school before the end of term. Please return the book to Bude Library (that your child borrowed on our trip).
The children have been given their exercise books to keep at home. Much of the children’s work in RE, PSHE, Science and DT has been collated in a class floor book, which will move on to Year 2 with the classes. Each child has an art book which will also move into Year 2 with them.
This week we have been exploring different materials in our science learning. We decided to link this to our learning about the Great Fire of London, by investigating which materials are fire resistant. This investigation was completed by adults and the children watched carefully to record the results. We spoke to the children about fire safety and about not trying to repeat this investigation at home! Please speak with your child about fire safety at home and reiterate the message that children should not play with fire.
We are planning to have a bike track session on Tuesday 26th July (the last day of term), and would like to invite all Year 1 children to bring their bike and a helmet in to school on that day. If they are not able to bring a bike, they will walk or run around the track instead.
In Maths this week, the children have been learning about money. We have been learning to recognise coins and notes, count amounts of money, and compare amounts of money. They have also been learning more about dates and telling the time.
Summer Reading Challenge 2022
Get ready to become a Gadgeteer with the Summer Reading Challenge 2022! To join the Gadgeteers, you need to read library books over the summer and collect stickers to complete your special Gadgeteers poster. It’s fun and FREE to take part. This year, The Reading Agency is partnering with Science Museum Group for Gadgeteers, a science and innovation themed challenge that will spark children’s curiosity about the world around them. Find out more about Gadgeteers here:
FREE: If you're a library member you can borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks from Borrowbox. You can also borrow eBooks, eAudiobooks, eComics and eMagazines. Both of these services have an app and a website.
Thank you for an amazing year in Year 1. We have really appreciated all the support you have given to your children to help them with their learning. The children have been fantastic and we wish them all a fun filled summer holiday!
