Our Rules and Rewards
In addition to our golden rules, we have a super hero-themed rewards system. Each child has super hero that they have chosen and coloured themselves which they will be asked to move up a step if they have done something good. This may be for trying hard, sitting nicely or being helpful etc. If the children reach the picture of the city at the end of the display, they will get a sticker. If they reach this 5 times, they get a prize from the prize box.
If the children are disruptive, we have a green/yellow/red chart. The children have labels on this and we will move their name onto the yellow if they are repeatedly misbehaving. This also involves a short ‘time out’ session. They will move onto the red part if this behaviour does not improve and, if this happens, they will have another ‘time out’ session and you will be notified by text. Depending on the behaviour, a red card may also warrant a visit to Mrs Simpson or a more senior member of staff.
Our topics this term are called: The Big Build and Let’s Celebrate. The Big Build is a unit linked to The Three Little Pigs and focusses on materials and construction. The second unit is linked to Christmas and other celebrations around the world.
We will be doing PE on Mondays and Tuesdays. We might change this throughout the year. Please ensure your child has their kit in school on these days. It is essential that all items of kit are labelled.
Reading and Homework
We expect the children to read at least 5 times per week. Please record this in your child’s yellow reading log. You will need to let us know (or the children could let us know) if reading books need to be changed because we don’t check book bags daily. We will also set a short piece of numeracy homework each week. Details of homework are put in the weekly update. Book bags are checked every other Friday by Miss Jennings (we will aim to text you when it’s your child’s week!).
If your child has developed/ develops a new medical condition please let us know. If they require an inhaler in school, please can you make sure we have a labelled one for them to use. We must also remind you that we have a no nut policy – please do not send your child into school with food containing nuts.
From Monday to Thursday, the children are allowed to bring in a piece of fruit or a vegetable to eat at break time. Fruit Winders, School Bars and other manufactured snacks are not allowed. On Fridays they may bring in a savoury snack. It is important that the children bring a drinks bottle in to school every day too. Water bottles that are kept in the class should contain water and not squash please.
Two children will be elected as school councillors next week. Children who were interested in doing this have brought home a short manifesto to complete. On Monday, they will explain this to the class and we will vote. They may need your help with this.
Please encourage your child to be independent with their possessions in the morning. If they have put their water bottles, coats and snacks in the right place, they know exactly where to find them!
Home time - Thank you for your patience whilst the children are being sent to the person collecting them at home time. It may be a slow process to start but it is essential that this is done with care.
Individual parents’ meetings will be before half term.
