Welcome to Year 4. We look forward to working together. This page will be updated each Friday and it is important that families check-in regularly.
It was wonderful to see so many of you at our 'meet the teacher' meeting - as promised, you will find the link to the presentation below.
This week, classes have started their study of the Anglo-Saxons and this will be their topic focus for the half term. In our writing, we will be focusing on writing legends and in maths, our initial area of learning will be place value.
Please encourage your child to read every day at home and to record at least 4/5 episodes in their reading record, which should be brought in to school every day. Reading records are checked on Friday morning.
Your child has a purple homework book. We have glued in a list of expected Y4 words and a 'menu' of activities for you to work through/from with your child. We suggest that you ask your child to choose 10 words that they find more challenging or tricky and use these words through an activity. Over time, you will cover words from the whole list. Record the activity and attempts in the purple book, which will be acknowledged.
A copy of the list is attached below. (If your child has a slightly different list, don't panic, it is planned!)
From next week we will be setting times table homework tasks. This will include a login to Times Tables Rock Stars - an engaging and interactive online 'game' that encourages children to improve their tables accuracy and speed.
Tuesday, 10th September - School Council elections (pupils will need a manifesto - templates available in class)
Friday, 13th September - Times Tables Rock Stars launch - logins to come home
Thursday, 19th September - FIRST swimming session
Sunday 22nd September - Muddy Meadow Mayhem - Track fundraiser
Tuesday 24/25th September - Birch Class Residential
Thursday 26th/27th September - Elm Class Residential
Starting on Monday 16th September after the children’s class Tae Kwon Do coaching, we are able to offer a Tae Kwon Do club to the Year 4 classes. This will take place every Monday until to half-term from 3.25 to 4.30pm. Every week a qualified coach will be supporting the children in learning and practising a range of Tae Kwon Do skills.
Unfortunately we can only provide 30 places, so not all children will be able to participate. If over-subscribed we will pick names out of a hat. We must point out that we expect a level of commitment from the children, and that if they would like to join the club, they should be prepared to attend every week. If for a particular reason they are unable to attend, it is important that you let us know in the morning.
If your child would like to participate in the Tae Kwon Do club, please select the consent on School Gateway.
We will confirm your child's place on Friday 13th via text.
