Year 5 weekly update Friday 25th September 2020
Key dates: none this week!
It’s been another busy, but much colder, week this week. We would therefore like to remind you that windows and doors will be kept open as much as possible, so children should have extra layers of clothing in case they feel cold. This week we have learnt about the movement of the moon and have made models that demonstrate the earth’s and moon’s movement around the sun. In English, we have been looking at writing diary entries and are continuing to enjoy our class book, Rebecca’s World. For maths, we have been revising multiplication and division and practicing our times tables.
We have discussed our school council this week and will be running our elections next week. This year, all manifestos will be anonymous. If your child would like to stand, but does not have a blank manifesto, please find one below which can be filled in and emailed back to us, or printed and returned.
We are now expecting all homework to be completed by Friday. Children will need to have their reading logs and homework books in school. We will contact you by email if your child has not completed the week’s homework.
Reading: All children should now have an accelerated reader book. This is expected to be in school every day and taken home to read every evening.
Your child should read at least 5 times a week. Their reading book from school is linked to Accelerated reader where they will take a quiz once they have read the book. This will check their understanding so discussing the book with your child is essential. Please log all reading (including other texts read). We will check the logs next Friday in class.
Spellings: Your child has a list of spellings to practise. Please use the spelling menu for ideas and record work in the purple book. We suggest only 5 a week at present. Please focus on the words on the Year 3 and 4 list first.
Your child may bring home a different list specifically for them.
Maths: Times Table Rock Stars
Please resume TTRS. The children have been set a minimum of 3 garage sessions a week.
Your child will have the same login as last year. If you don’t have this, please let us know.
Have a lovely weekend!
