Work for Day 1 of Lockdown January 2021
This work is for the first day of absence. Please ensure this is completed. Your class teacher will be in contact about further work.
Year 5 weekly update Friday 18th December 2020
The whole Y5 team would like to thank you for all your support during this term. We wish you a very Merry, happy, healthy Christmas! We will see you all in 2021!
We are now all using google classroom for remote learning. We are practising in classes and now need everyone to check they can log on. This can be accessed on ANY device as it is via the internet.
IMPORTANT - The account we are using is separate from ANY home google accounts. You will need to ‘add an account’ on your home login page and put in your child’s login. They will then see their classroom they belong to in school.
IMPORTANT – the stream (the first option at the top of the screen) is for education messages only - if a child is posting inappropriate chat on there, they will be muted and not allowed to put anything on there.
We do want your child to post a message to their class teacher to say they have logged on successfully at home. They then can show you how it works (we are not experts yet!) and log off.
Please notify your class teacher if you are unable to logon.
Every child’s email account is disabled. We do not need them to use this option. Their login is their email account though!
This will be the year they were in year 1, followed by their name and first letter of their surname and then everyone has the same end part. For example: John Smith who joined in 2015 will be:
Some pupils do have a slight variation – most of the pupils do know their logins.
Password: Stratton (capital S)
This will be changing for individuals very soon so your child will have their own password.
NB: You are only allowed to logon to your own account. We will be signing user agreements in the near future and this is one of the most important agreements.
Good luck everyone!
We are now expecting all homework to be completed by Friday. Children will need to have their reading logs and homework books in school. We will contact you by email if your child has not completed the week’s homework.
Reading: All children should now have an accelerated reader book. This is expected to be in school every day and taken home to read every evening.
Your child should read at least 5 times a week. Their reading book from school is linked to Accelerated reader where they will take a quiz once they have read the book. This will check their understanding so discussing the book with your child is essential. Please log all reading (including other texts read). We will check the logs next Friday in class.
Spellings: Your child has a list of spellings to practise. Please use the spelling menu for ideas and record work in the purple book. We suggest only 5 a week at present. Please focus on the words on the Year 3 and 4 list first.
Your child may bring home a different list specifically for them.
Telling the time:
Please log onto Google classroom and complete the time homework activities.
Times Table Rock Stars
Please resume TTRS. The children have been set a minimum of 5 garage sessions a week. This has been updated on TTRS now. We expect the children to complete 20-30 minutes each week. 5 minutes every day is more effective than doing it all in one go.
Your child will have the same login as last year. If you don’t have this, please let us know.
Have a lovely weekend!
