Year 1/2 weekly update – Friday 17th October
Dear Parents/Carers,
In maths this week, we have been partitioning numbers into parts and wholes and practising our number bonds to 10 and 20. The children have absolutely loved our new DT unit and have spent the week learning about wheels and axles. They have thought carefully about the design of their toy car and are looking forward to making these throughout the week.
Head lice:
There have been a couple cases of head lice across Year 1/2 this week. Can we please ask that you are vigilant in checking your child’s hair and long hair should always be tied up. Thank you.
End of the day:
Can we please remind adults collecting children at the end of the day, there is a line for each class. Maple class is by the fence to the right as you look at the school, Pine class is by the railings and Willow class is by the fence to the left as you look at the school. Teachers will call children up individually. Please don’t wave your child over to where you are as the teacher may not see your child leave.
Up-coming trip:
We have arranged a trip to Charlie Bears to conclude our 'Toys Through Time' topic for the first week back after half term. Please see the letter saved below. It has also been emailed to you. Thank you!
Homework:
Maths – The children have now been given Numbots logins in their yellow reading log books. Please play on NumBots for 10 minutes, 3 times each week. Please support your child to login to NumBots independently so that they can use this skill to practise NumBots during challenge time in school.
Reading - please read at home 5 times each week and record this in your reading log. Reading logs will be checked every Friday.
Spellings - Spelling homework is to use Little Birds spelling to support spelling of common exception words. Click on the following link to take you to the game https://ictgames.com/littleBirdSpelling/ Along the top where it says ‘Year’, select number 1 for either Year 1 or Year 2. This week we are on the dark yellow house. Your child will get to study the word to see how to spell it and then has to drag the tiles up to spell it. Playing this more than once will help to secure their spelling of the words. We plan to continue with the same spellings for two weeks at a time.
We hope you have a lovely weekend!
Mrs Harris, Mrs Reay, Miss Puckey and Miss Smith
